We specialise in the application of highly automated, data driven trading strategies and our current focus is on short term power markets. We are currently trading across several European power markets with ambitious plans to further expand our trading activities across both European and global power markets in the coming years.

ABOUT THE JOB

 

Position: Head of Engineering


Location: Dublin, Ireland (Remote also possible)

We have an exciting opportunity for Head of Engineering to join our growing team. The successful candidate will lead and support a team of talented engineers in the design, development, and maintenance of our trading platform, data infrastructure and related systems. You will play a lead role in designing and implementing our engineering strategy, driving technical excellence, and ensuring our engineering systems and team evolve as necessary to support our ambitious growth plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Team Leadership

    • Manage and lead a team of engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities.

    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, promoting open communication and knowledge sharing.

    • Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and identify opportunities for improvement.​

  2. Engineering Strategy

    • Defining and implementing the engineering vision, strategy, and roadmaps, ensuring that the technical architecture aligns with the company's long-term goals and scalability requirements.

    • Work closely with stakeholders across the business, from Trading to Finance functions, to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

    • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive technical innovation within the team.

  3. Engineering Performance and Reliability

    • Establish and maintain engineering best practices, development methodologies, and coding standards. 

    • Monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring high availability, scalability, and reliability of trading platforms and related systems.

    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, promoting code reviews, automated testing, and other quality assurance measures.

  4. Technical Contribution

    • Act as a technical expert and occasionally contribute as an individual contributor, especially during critical operational challenges or to address complex technical problems.

    • Lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in coding, design, and development.

QUALIFICATIONS​

​

  1. Experience

    • Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or similar leadership role where you managed high-performing engineering teams within the technology industry, preferably in the commodities or financial trading sector.

    • Knowledge of energy trading systems, financial markets, and relevant technologies is an advantage.

    • Experience working in a start-up/scale-up environment with small teams is an advantage.

  2. Technical skills

    • Strong technical background, with hands-on experience in software development and engineering best practices.

    • Proficiency in programming languages, especially Python and clean code principles

    • Experience with DevOps, AWS, Docker & Kubernetes

  3. Leadership & Management skills

    • Experience in providing strategic leadership, guiding engineering teams to align their efforts with overarching business objectives.

    • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  4. Strategic thinking

    • An ability to develop and execute technical strategies, with a focus on translating business needs into effective technical solutions.
